THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
Now is the time to start harvesting garlic, onions and shallots. Onions that have been overwintered can now be lifted dried and used or stored. Also sow salad crops and spinach for the autumn. Prune overlong shoots of trained fruit trees (espalliers and arches) to four or 5 buds. Keep runner beans regularly watered if conditions turn dry. Prevent potato and tomato blight by spraying with copper based fungicide. You can find out more here www.RHS.org.uk
